Features of a Helical Bevel Gearbox

The helical bevel gearbox is an alternative to spur gears in many applications. This gearbox features a helical configuration, which transfers loads more smoothly than spur gears. It also has a higher speed capability. The main advantages are its higher speed capability and quieter operation.

A bevel helical gearbox uses a large diameter worm wheel that links to teeth along the perimeter of the worm shaft. The helical gear’s engine generates rotational energy by causing torque to be transmitted through a perpendicular or non-intersecting axis. The helical bevel gearbox is ideal for such applications because it has a relatively low amount of friction and is thus quieter.

An application of a helical bevel gearbox includes interlocking shafts and is challenging to assemble. Because bevel gears produce such a large force, it’s crucial to select bearings with the ability to handle the force. There are two kinds of bevel gears: straight and spiral. Spiral bevel gears are quieter than straight ones, but tend to suffer from tooth slippage.

Another benefit of a helical gear is its ability to transmit more power than spur gears. Consequently, it’s more preferred in applications where speed is critical, because it can tolerate more load and is quieter and smoother. Helical gears are also less expensive than spur gears, so they’re typically the choice for low-speed applications.
